There's no magic in photography, just the messy intersection of physics and art....Kirk Tuck

I graduated from the University of Nebraska with a B.A. in Biology. I then did postgraduate work in Microbiology. At the same time I went to work in a hospital laboratory and also became a registered Cardiopulmonary Technologist. Some say that photography is an art. Some say it is a science, While they are probably both correct, my scientific background has certainly helped me grasp the technical aspects of photography.

Photography: a Lifelong Passion

My passion for photography started in 1979 with the purchase of my first 35 mm camera, a Pentax. Shortly after that I purchased my first true system camera, a Canon AE-1. For the next 20 plus years I pursued photography as a hobby primarily interested in landscapes. For those of you that can appreciate this I ultimately ended up using a medium format system, a Mamiya 645.

As a horseman

Our entire adult lives my wife, Barb, and I have been involved with horses. I trained horses through undergraduate school and graduate school to pay college expenses. I have completed the AQHA Championship on several horses and have had many high point horses in the Quarter Horse Association of Nebraska. Most recently I was the Champion Non Pro in the Central Plains Reining Horse Association for 2007. I am both a National Reining Horse Association and American Quarter Horse Association approved judge. I hope you will visit the Four Winds Farm Page link above and see our horses.

Putting it all together!

Finally, I have done just that, put it all together. I hope you will agree that I have the background as scientist, horseman and photographer to offer that unique perspective to capture your important horse images.

My Equipment

A lot of people have asked me what equipment I use so here it is. I now use Canon Professional digital SLR's exclusively. I use a Canon 5D primarily for portraits and landscapes and most of my equine photography. For fast moving sports and equine photography, like cutting, I use a Canon 1DMkII. I have a Canon amateur camera, a 40D, primarily for backup. For lenses I use the following Canon 70-200 F/4L, Canon 24-105 F/4L IS, Canon 50 1.8, Canon 100 F/2, Tamron 28-75 F/2.8, Tokina 12-24 F/4, Tokina 19-35 F3.5-4.5, Sigma 80-400 F/4.5-5.6 OS. And, of course, I have all sorts of lighting gear.
